We’ll write a book on this topic. However I’m thinking of doing a course on that, so stay tuned.

Time for a little story.

When I was in High School, I was always the one among my friends who was always trying to prove something. At some point, I felt that I was the only one without a talent for writing, dancing, singing, or any other special skill. As for writing, there was always someone able, or willing to present a compelling story to the group that would leave everyone in awe and I was never this guy. Whenever I tried to come up with even a “simple poem” expressing my true feelings, it would not work. My ideas were never clear enough, my typos and mistakes were abundant and all I was left with was my friends laughing at my ideas.

Now how is it going so far?

Well, that did make me chose to not give up. I worked a lot on myself and today, I am a published author. I wrote my first book, already finished the second one, and started the third. So, you will be hearing about me.

How did I do it?

Now let me share with you some tips and advice that might convince you of your capacity to write with an engaging touch.

When do you write?

I write when I feel bitter, depressed, and misunderstood. Note that all the words that I’ve used here have one thing in common:

They translate my need to communicate something that I feel strongly about.

Do you have a passion? Are there hot topics you always get excited about? Or let’s say, do you have something that drives you? This one thing that can put your soul on fire? Is there something that takes you away when you’re practicing it? Do you feel, something inside of you that needs to come out, that people need to hear at some point?

That “thing” is your “it”.

I would recommend that you start a blog, an article, a scenario, and why not a series or a movie (of course there is a cost for each of them but hey I encourage you to try and learn in the process):

I will even challenge you to answer the following questions:

1- What do I want to write about?

2- In what form do I want it to be? (novel, essay, article…) you probably will need to research this.

3- How do you want people to see it?

4- How do you want people to feel when they are reading it?

Starting with even the first paragraph.

5- How do you want your readers to enter the world that you have painted for them?

6- Where do you want to take the reader?

7- What tone do you want to set your document?

8- How do you want your document or project to end?

9- In what mindset do you want them to finish reading the last paragraph, phase, and sentence?

10- What is your writing style going to be? Maybe a style that you can adopt or feel comfortable with.

Never forget to have your document proofread by someone who can relate or have strong knowledge on the subject you are writing about, and maybe who shares a similar passion.

I promise you if you always keep these questions and tips in mind, with time and practice, writing will come naturally.
